Inside the palace and the grotto

Both sights are only open on guided tours in German or English.

The palace tour takes about 25 minutes. Up to 40 people go in together, and groups start every 5 to 10 minutes.

The Venus Grotto reopened to visitors on 11 April 2025, with an official ceremony on 30 April 2025. The restoration began in August 2015 on the outside, and the interior followed from 2017. It cost around €58.9 million and took roughly 500,000 working hours. The grotto tour takes about 15 minutes for up to 50 people, with a start every 20 minutes. It is wheelchair accessible.

The grotto lies at 990 metres above sea level, about 50 metres higher than the palace. The paths have gradients of up to 20 percent.

Cost

In April 2026 the Bavarian Palace Administration announced a restoration of up to €16.6 million.

How to get to Linderhof

There is no train to the door, so plan the last stretch.

Rail closure

The line between Murnau and Oberammergau is closed until further notice, with replacement buses. Check the timetable on the day.

From Neuschwanstein

Combined day tours from Munich take about 10 to 10.5 hours, according to providers. Check whether the Neuschwanstein entry ticket and time slot are included.
