Tegelberg at a glance

The Tegelberg is the mountain above Schwangau, the municipality where Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau stand. The Tegelbergbahn, a cable car, runs from the valley station in Schwangau to the summit area. The valley station is also the base for the summer toboggan run and for the hang gliding and paragliding centre.

The operator's own pages give prices and operating times. Some technical details come from third-party sources and we mark them as "about". The ride takes about 4 minutes. The line is 2,146 metres long and overcomes 892.5 metres of height, according to a 2026 accessibility report. Third-party sources give about 830 metres for the valley station and about 1,720 metres for the mountain station.

Opening hours and the autumn closure

The cable car stops for an annual overhaul. Check this before you plan a trip between November and December.

Summer

9 am to 5 pm, with the last trip up at 4:45 pm.

Winter

9 am to 4:30 pm.

Overhaul 2026

The cable car is closed from 9 November to 17 December 2026 inclusive. The operator links the dates to the snow situation, so check the live status.

Spring 2027

Spring 2026 had an overhaul in March, with the cable car closed Monday to Thursday and running Friday to Sunday. The dates for spring 2027 are not yet known to us.

Summer toboggan run

The summer toboggan run starts at the valley station and is 760 metres long. It runs only in dry weather. Children up to 7 ride free with an accompanying person, and children under 3 are not carried.

  • One ride: €5 for adults, youths and seniors, €3.50 for children aged 8 to 15.
  • Six rides: €21, or €15 for children.

Operating times differ between sources. The operator's live status showed 12:30 to 5 pm on 6 October 2026, while the Hohenschwangau site gives 10 am to 6 pm daily from March or April to September or October. Check on the day. We do not know whether it runs during the cable car overhaul.

Getting to the Tegelbergbahn and parking

Bus line 78 from Füssen via Schwangau stops at the valley station. An accessibility report puts the bus stop about 40 metres from it. The KönigsCard and the Füssen Card are valid on lines 73 and 78. Check the current fare and timetable for your trip.

Parking at the valley station is paid from 6 am to 10 pm: €2 for up to two hours or €5 for the day. If you buy a cable car ticket, €2 of the €5 is refunded.

Paragliding and hang gliding

The Tegelberg has a hang gliding and paragliding centre with tandem flights. We have no verified price for a tandem flight. Pilots pay a landing fee of €4 per day.

Hiking and the Pöllat gorge

The operator lists the hiking path through the Pöllat gorge as closed (6 October 2026). Check before you plan a hike from the Tegelberg towards the Marienbrücke.

What a visit costs and how to plan it

A simple example with 2026 prices: two adults pay €65 for the return trip, plus €10 for one toboggan ride each. Parking for the day is €5, of which €2 is refunded when you buy a cable car ticket, so the net cost is €3. That makes about €78 before food. Add a child aged 6 to 15 and the return trip adds €13.

The cable car and the toboggan run depend on the weather and on snow. The operator posts a live status on its website, and it is worth checking in the morning, especially in autumn and winter. The overhaul from 9 November to 17 December 2026 is the main date to avoid. Outside it, hours are 9 am to 5 pm in summer and 9 am to 4:30 pm in winter.

The toboggan run and the paragliding centre share the valley station area, so the valley station works as a base even if you do not take the cable car.
